New in the Naples Neighborhood: Sour & Dough Artisan Bakery

There is something about the smell of freshly baked bread that makes it almost impossible to walk by without stopping. North Naples now has another place putting that theory to the test with the arrival of Sour & Dough Artisan Bakery, a family-owned bakery and café bringing artisan breads, French-inspired pastries, gourmet sandwiches and specialty coffee to The Pavilion on Vanderbilt Beach Road.
The North Naples bakery is the second location for Sour & Dough, which began serving Southwest Florida from University Village near Florida Gulf Coast University in 2024. The concept blends the owners’ French and Argentinian backgrounds with a focus on artisan baking, coffee and a welcoming café atmosphere.
And for those of us who believe a really good croissant can qualify as a perfectly reasonable reason to leave the house, this is one new Naples arrival worth knowing about.
A Family-Owned Bakery Comes to North Naples
Sour & Dough Artisan Bakery occupies a 1,190-square-foot space at 893 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Unit 58, inside The Pavilion shopping center. The bakery offers both indoor seating and covered outdoor seating, making it a spot where you can linger over coffee and breakfast, meet a friend for lunch or simply stop in to pick up fresh bread or pastries to take home.
The location is particularly convenient for North Naples residents. The Pavilion sits along Vanderbilt Beach Road near U.S. 41, surrounded by restaurants, fitness, retail and other everyday destinations.
While this is a new addition to Naples, Sour & Dough itself isn’t a brand-new concept. The family opened its original Southwest Florida location at University Village in 2024, where it established itself as an artisan bakery, specialty coffee bar and casual breakfast and lunch destination.
The Bread Is the Star, But Don’t Stop There
As the name suggests, bread plays a leading role at Sour & Dough. The bakery specializes in freshly baked artisan breads, but its menu goes well beyond bringing home a loaf for dinner. The North Naples location offers French-inspired breads and pastries, gourmet sandwiches and specialty coffee drinks. That makes it versatile enough for a quick morning coffee, breakfast treat, casual lunch or afternoon bakery run.
The sandwich menu is especially interesting because the bread isn’t simply an afterthought. Sour & Dough builds its sandwiches around its bakery products and combines them with ingredients such as prosciutto, turkey, brie, arugula, fresh tomatoes, house-made pesto and aioli.
One option pairs focaccia with turkey, arugula, cherry tomatoes, brie and house-made pesto. Another combines Prosciutto di Parma with brie, tomatoes and arugula on brioche, finished with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. There is also a sourdough sandwich featuring ham, Swiss cheese, arugula, caramelized pear and house-made aioli.
In other words, this isn’t just a bakery where you grab a loaf on the way home. It is also designed to work as a breakfast and lunch destination.
Croissants, Cinnamon Rolls and the “Cruffin”
Naturally, we need to talk about the pastry case. Among Sour & Dough’s offerings are familiar favorites such as croissants and cinnamon rolls, along with a slightly less traditional creation called a cruffin. The cruffin combines elements of a croissant and muffin and is filled with fruit cream.
Pair one with a specialty coffee and you have a pretty compelling excuse for a midmorning break.
The overall concept combines artisan bread, freshly baked goods, breakfast and lunch specialties and specialty coffee, so the appeal is broader than any one item on the menu.
A Little France, a Little Argentina and a Lot of Family
One of the more interesting parts of Sour & Dough is the story behind it. The owners describe their bakery as bringing together influences from France and Argentina, with an emphasis on warmth, authenticity and a relaxed café environment. The family-owned nature of the business is an important part of the concept and helps give Sour & Dough the feel of a neighborhood bakery rather than simply another restaurant.
That combination of European-inspired baking and an approachable café atmosphere feels particularly well suited to Naples. It is the kind of place that can serve several roles depending on the day: coffee on the way to work, breakfast after a morning walk, lunch with a friend, or a baguette and pastries picked up for home.
Why The Pavilion Is a Good Fit
The Pavilion has long been one of those North Naples centers where locals can accomplish quite a bit in one stop. Located along the Vanderbilt Beach Road corridor, the center includes restaurants, fitness, specialty retailers and service businesses.
Adding an artisan bakery and café brings another type of everyday destination to the mix. Unlike a restaurant that may primarily draw customers for a full meal, a bakery can become part of someone’s regular routine. Stop in for coffee. Pick up bread for dinner. Meet someone for lunch. Grab pastries when guests are visiting. Return the next week because you suddenly can’t imagine Saturday morning without that croissant.
Those smaller neighborhood conveniences are part of what makes living in Naples enjoyable. We understandably spend plenty of time talking about beaches, golf courses and beautiful homes, but the businesses we frequent every week are an equally important part of how we experience a community.

Another New Flavor in the Naples Neighborhood
One of my favorite things about keeping up with what’s happening around Naples is seeing the variety of new businesses choosing to become part of our community. Restaurants and shops may get much of the attention, but neighborhood bakeries have a special way of becoming part of everyday life.
Sour & Dough brings something that is both simple and surprisingly hard to resist: freshly baked bread, pastries, thoughtfully prepared sandwiches and coffee, served in a casual setting where you can sit for a while or grab something to go.
Whether you stop by for a loaf of sourdough, meet a friend for lunch or decide that investigating a cruffin is important local research, Sour & Dough Artisan Bakery is another new North Naples business to have on your radar.
And that is exactly why I enjoy sharing these New in the Naples Neighborhood highlights. Knowing where to live is only part of knowing Naples. Knowing what’s opening around town, where to eat, what to explore and which new places are worth discovering is part of being a local, too.
